"God created great men and small men Jiu-Jitsu He made them all the same?

The jiu-jitsu evens the ground, but not from day one

There is a phrase that repeats itself in almost every gym in jiu-jitsu It appears in YouTube videos, in interviews with the Gracies, in the poster of the entry of more than one academy: the jiu-jitsu is the art that equals the differences fisicas.

But there's a part that nobody tells you when you start this sport.

The first few months are gonna be tough, especially if you're little

When you've been training and rolling for a short time with someone who takes you out of your pocket, but it's got your level, you're probably gonna have a hard time, not because you're doing something wrong jiu-jitsu But because he can make a mistake and still control you and someterte. You can't afford that luxury yet.

The weight doesn't buy technical, but it does buy margin of error, and that margin at first is huge.

It's something you see constantly in the tatami. The big white belt crushes the small white belt almost without knowing how. No guard, no structure, no correct weight transfer. It just gets on and works. And the little one comes out of the frustrated roll wondering what he's done wrong.

The honest answer is: probably nothing. Only you still don't have the tools to handle that situation.

The weight has a roof

Here is the part of the myth that is true, and that eventually you will understand in the body, not just in the head.

The brute force reaches a certain point and stops. You can’t force a guillotine without the alineaciYou can't hold the back of someone who knows how to take it out, whatever it is you weigh 100 kilos if you don't know distribuir The force covers many technical holes, but does not eliminate them, and when you meet someone who does have technique, those holes all appear at once.

A brown or black belt with good technique will handle almost any larger blue belt. Almost always. But between white and blue the story is different, and pretending that it is not so does not make it ninga favor to no one.

There is another factor that is not enough to talk about cardio. The big guy who squeezes everything from the first minute comes to the third with his arms burned. If you know how to survive that first storm, if you don’t get at s where he wants to have you and you can manage the rhythm, the tatami starts to level up alone. But for that you need tools: escapes, recovery from guard, control your breathing, know how to move without spending yourself too.

And those tools take a while to build.

What no one tells you in the first class

If you are the smallest in the gym, your learning curve is different from the rest. No harder in the background, but more demanding at first. Your escapes have to be better before. You can’t stay in bad positions waiting for something to change. You have to move, use angles, play with the timing instead of trying to match what you can't match.

That's not a permanent disadvantage. It's the game that touched you, and it has something valuable that the biggest doesn't learn until much later: it forces you to develop real technique from the beginning, because you have no other choice.

The jiu-jitsu It just takes years, not months, and in the meantime, the most useful thing you can do is understand where you really are, absorb all the information you can, learn from each fight and find your own game.
